Facebook, Google, Apple, Samsung, und Co. wissen immer, wo wir sind, wo wir hinfahren, was wir morgen einkaufen werden. Mit unser aller Daten wird das große Geschäft gemacht. Es droht die Abschaffung des Privaten, der eigenen Autonomie. „Geheimnisse sind Lügen, Teilen ist Heilen, alles Private ist Diebstahl“ lauten die Verheißungen des Digitalen, die David Eggers in seinem Roman „The Circle“ beschreibt. Die Visionen von der neuen digitalen Welt sind deshalb so furchteinflößend, weil sie uns bestens vertraut sind und uns zugleich die Distanz verloren gegangen ist, sie kritisch zu hinterfragen. Aber noch sei schließlich nicht entschieden, so Glenn Greenwald bei der Eröffnung des Chaos Communication Congress 2013 in Hamburg, ob das Internet „ein Werkzeug für Freiheit und Demokratie“ ist, oder sich doch eher zum „schlimmsten Werkzeug der Repression in der Menschheitsgeschichte“ entwickelt.
Eines steht zweifelsfrei fest: Noch nie in der Geschichte war die Privatheit so im Verschwinden begriffen, wie heute.
Auf dem 58. ZEIT Forum Wissenschaft thematisieren wir die Digitale Selbstbestimmung und gehen der Frage nach, ob die digitale Revolution unsere hart erkämpften Menschenrechte aus analoger Zeit aufweichen und die über Jahrhunderte errungene Privatsphäre immer weiter verschwindet. Wir beklagen den Verlust der Autonomie durch das Digitale. Wie können wir uns eine Technologie schaffen, die uns nützt und ein Mehr an Möglichkeiten schafft, als das sie uns schadet und den Verlust der Autonomie beschert
